Biography

Phil currently draws cartoons for the Wisconsin’s second largest daily Newspaper, the Wisconsin State Journal, as well as The Tampa Tribune, one of Florida's largest daily newspapers.

Until receiving his masters in Journalism and Mass Communication in May of 2007, he also regularly drew editorial cartoons and illustrations for the Daily Cardinal, an independent newspaper run by students of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Phil also served on the paper's editorial board.

Phil’s work with the Wisconsin State Journal has received first place awards from the Milwaukee Press Club in 2005, 2006 and 2007 for best single editorial cartoon. His editorial cartoons for the Daily Cardinal garnered him a first place award in the Society of Professional Journalists regional student editorial cartoon competition in 2006. He won the Associated Collegiate Press national editorial cartooning award in 2007.

Phil cartoons have also appeared in The Grosse Pointe News, The Kenosha News, The Janesville Gazette, The Capital Region Business Journal and Capitol Report Wisconsin, a magazine targeted a Wisconsin’s law makers.

Phil is currently working to make his cartoons about Wisconsin state politics available to newspapers across Wisconsin through Philtoons syndication.

Phil, a pathetically loyal Detroit Tigers fan, currently lives in Madison, Wisconsin with his very understanding wife Tricia and her cat.
